Welcome

Welcome to Democracy-1st.

We are a grass roots organization whose #1 goal is to emphasize issues, promote debate and get to the truth about candidates at all levels. We will focus on federal, state and local elections in Southeast Louisiana. We will accomplish this by working both inside and outside of political parties.

In September 2007 qualifying will begin for the most important election cycle in Louisiana history. Every single seat in the Louisiana House and Senate will be up for election. We must continue to organize and bring the truth to the people of Louisiana.

We are concerned about the direction of government in Louisiana and our election officials and we will emphasize bringing out the truth about candidates and their real agendas.

Please sign up to volunteer for Democracy-1st and receive our newsletter. Together we can bring the truth to the people of Louisiana.

Will Bobby Jindal Ever Explain Why... His Refusal to Answer Underscores Congressman's Arrogance, Blind Obedience to President

Baton Rouge: It's been almost a week since Congressman Bobby Jindal voted against the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill. And yet, after numerous attempts to get a straight answer from the Congressman as to why he voted against funding for port and border security, first responders, increased security at oil refineries and chemical plants and tougher deportation standards for illegal aliens, Bobby Jindal's answer has been "I'll get back to you."

"If Bobby Jindal has a legitimate reason why he voted against these funds--other than that he was simply obeying the will of President Bush and the Republican leadership in Congress-then you would think he would want to tell us why," State Senator Walter Boasso, Democratic Candidate for Governor, said. "After all, we're talking about funds that will go to protecting the lives of Louisiana citizens from possible terrorist attacks against our ports, oil refineries and chemical plants. Given the importance of these funds I believe an immediate explanation is in order.

"The most important part of being a leader is being strong enough to justify your decisions and do so when the people want to know," Boasso said. "The people are the boss. And when the boss wants an answer, there's no 'I'll get back to you.'

"Maybe they do things differently in the bureaucratic sector, where Mr. Jindal comes from, but where I come from an answer like that is not an answer--it's a one-way ticket to looking for a new job."
